Useful Performing Arts

The following story is attributed to the great Benjamin Franklin. When asked about “useful Arts” he replied with his usual wit and wisdom that Fifers and Drummers playing on parade are “Entertainment” and “Entertainers”. However, the very same Fifers and Drummers playing the very same music on a battlefield are “useful Art” and Warriors.

The "useful Art" of Radio Talk Show Hosts

A widely spread phenomena of Radio Talk Shows is one of rare examples of existing and flourishing "useful" Performing Arts in America. In general Radio Talk Show is a Stage Monolog performed on the Air that meets all requirements of “useful” Performing Arts. It entertains with humor, funny jokes, laughter, and etc.. It informs about current events, political developments, social rumors, and etc, it educates in moral issues, and it directly interacts with live audience at the same time sometimes in a “politically incorrect“ way. Continued...


The roots of modern “useful” Performing Arts go as far as the ancient mystery religious. However, Radio Talk Show directly derives from what is known, as European tradition of court jesters, who entertained at all European royal courts. In the Middle Ages there was a widespread belief that good-humored joking protected a person from misfortune and all illnesses. 
 
«Therefore, the jesters were considered naturally "lucky" and as such could transfer their good fortune to their noble patrons. Indeed, kings often charged the jesters with the task of continually provoking his courtiers in order to deflect pent-up frustration or wrath away from himself and the other noblemen and ladies.

Court jesters became a sort of scapegoat or living mascot who could, through pranks and witty banter, bring good luck to his master and likewise "absorb" social friction. It is because of this special social function that court jesters were generally exempted from censorship and were allowed to behave in ways which would have been unacceptable for other members of the court.» (B. Will Sommers, Jester of King's Henry VIII of England
 
William Sommers was the most well-known court jester of King Henry VIII of England. Impressed by Sommers' sense of humor, king Henry promptly offered him a place at court. He was soon in high favor with the king, whose liberality to him is attested by the accounts of the royal household.

Sommers remained in the king's service for the rest of Henry's life. The jester was also a man of integrity and discretion. He often drew the king's attention to extravagance and waste within the royal household by means of a joke that hurt powerful people in the court.  

Court jesters were permitted familiarities without regard for deference, and Sommers possessed a shrewd wit, which he exercised even on the most powerful people of the king’s court. However, he did occasionally overstep the mark. In 1535, the king threatened to kill Sommers with his own hand, after callking Queen Ann "a ribald" and the Princess Elizabeth the future Queen of England, "a b...astard".

Radio Talk Show Hosts are a modern embodiment of historical court jesters. They are jesters of WE THE PEOPLE, who replaced king’s Power for the Power of the Constitutional Republic. Therefore, for a sake of special function of these modern "court jesters" in the Society - "protection from misfortune", they should be appreciated and courted themselves. And, of course, they must be exempted from any censorship.

In the beginning, the United States was nothing, but the Word of the Constitution. The Constitution was the “political religion of the Nation”, mandating to promote both “Science and useful Arts.”
The promoting of Science did make America great and strong! Meanwhile, practically nothing was done to promote the “useful Arts”. They are imperative, to enlighten people, to win their hearts and minds, and to create positive role models.
The “useful Arts” are the Law. The "useful Arts" are vital for keeping the Republic. The "useful Arts" are instrumental "to secure the Blessings of Liberty".  
Therefore, it is a Constitutional Responsibility of every law abiding U.S. Citizen to support the “useful Arts”.

Call for a Union of Political Science and “useful Arts”

The very name “Twilight of the Nation” may provoke reminiscences of the work by Oswald Spengler (1880-1936) The Decline of the West. Let me make it clear - it has no relations to the pessimistic concept by Spengler. On the contrary, I use this term as an opposite to the idea of the final stage of existence of Human Culture. I do think that nothing is “final” in Human Culture and infinite opportunities that come with it.
 
Meanwhile, it is hard but quite necessary for a Human Mind to accept, that literally everything that grows and expands has to come to the Natural End at some point. For some things it takes a longer time, for some it takes a shorter period. And there is no escape or an exception from this Law of the Universe. The very same Law effects life of all Nations being political, economic, social and cultural U-nions. The United States of America is not an exception from this merciless Law either.

Political, economic, and social Unions do fall down. However, before they do, they get into Twilight, first. Twilight is an integral part of a development of any Nation. Nations are born, they grow, develop, transform, and then they enter Twilight. Dramatic alterations in life of the Nation that inevitably come with Twilight may seem to some as an upheaval of the Biblical proportion. It is partially true, especially for those Nations that are not prepared to meet ideological and economic challenges of Twilight.

Twilight unfolds with the following classic scenario. A Nation gets into long term War it cannot win decisively. Then, the Nation becomes besieged by enemies outside and growing split and opposition to the War and Government inside. The Nation exhausts all available ideological and economic resources. A victim of own past Glory the Nation comes to a point of no return. It cannot hold existing Union anymore and falls down. Then, it disappears from the Historical Stage.

Where are magnificent Unions of ancient Greece, and Rome? Where are many other great Unions before and after them? Some left just traces of their presence in Science and Arts. Some completely vanished in historical oblivion. As a general rule, they all got in Twilight, first, and they all gone then!

Some may say that there are no historical precedents of Nations that were able to endure Twilight. Therefore, it may seem impossible to get in Twilight and still stay alive as a U-nion. In spite of all complexity that comes with Twilight, it is not necessarily the end of the road for a Nation. I am not saying that to make my reader “feel good“. There is everlasting life in Twilight! It is a quite different life. Therefore, the Nation needs to get prepared for it in “minds and hearts” of people before it is too late.

Preparations for Twilight include urgent development of means and material of new National Strategy, and what equally important is developing innovative Ideological and Economic Instruments along with training Force to implement that Strategy of survival in Twilight. The problem, however, is that intellectual shaping and reshaping of the National Strategy is totally usurped by so called “political Science“ in America.

“Political Science” in the United States is a very competitive, and it demands highly qualified professionals. There is no a secret that only a lengthy and elaborate doctoral degree is a pass to become a professional in the field of “political Science“. However, with all due respect to analytical abilities of political pundits in the United States, they never had interest in creating new Instruments and training new Forces.

Development of Ideological and Economic Instruments and training appropriate Forces necessary to endure Twilight could be an integral part of “useful Arts” historically dealing with implementation of Ideas. Alas! “Useful Arts” practically abandoned and/or ignored by political experts with doctoral degree, unless “useful Arts” serve immediate interests and exploited by policy makers: speech writings, political ads, political shows, and etc.

The distinct difference between “political Science” and “useful Arts” could be compared with a difference between a text of written play and a live production of the very same play on a Stage. The words are the same, dimensions are different. Like a play written by a playwright “political Science” has its own value. But, how many political scientists are lucky to see their “useful” thoughts implemented by policy makers!

In spite of that, the tight circle of political intellectuals does not recognize a necessity and true value of “useful Arts”. They are not eager to incorporate “useful Arts” into “political Science“ to create a small scale live models of their theories that may effect lives of the entire Nation before suggesting a “mass production” of those theories to policy makers. As a result, “political Science” is flourishing in “think tanks”, and universities that are distant from real Life, and “useful Arts” as Ideological Instruments of the Constituton are abandoned and obscure field nowadays.

Creativity of “useful Arts” may look too intuitive from the point of view of analytical “political Science”. Scientific research methods adapted by “political Science” such as “quantitative analysis”, statistical methods, opinion surveys, and recent methods of computer simulations, may look too rigid from the point of view of creative methods of “useful Arts”. However, both fields cannot exist without each other when it comes to Twilight of the Nation.

There is an urgent call to form a “union” between “political Science” and “useful Arts” in part of means and material of new National Strategy and Instruments and Forces necessary for implementation of it. It is not the U-nion of the “rational choice theory” for a sake of a self-interest of either party. It is rather “a more perfect Union” of new Aristotle and new Alexander the Great in order to meet challenges of Twilight and establish a precedent of survival the Nation as Union.

Ideological Power of the U.S. Constitution

The Constitutional Responsibility of the People
to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts”

The Constitution of the United States delegates Power “to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts” to the U.S. Congress. It also precisely defines how “to promote Science and useful Arts by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries”. Article I, Section 8. 
The U.S. Congress follows the order of the Constitution. However, the U.S. Congress oversteps delegated by the Constitution the limited Power to “promote the Progress of Science” and assumed the Power of appropriations for promoting Science financially.

In contrast, the U.S. Congress never appropriated promoting ideologically charged  “useful Arts” financially, and specifically "useful" Performing Arts, since the time of abandoning fifers and drummers on battlefields. (Read  more...)

To be fair, the Government supports all sorts of arts. However, all Government’s grants with practically no exception awarded to individuals, who actually abandoned “useful Arts”, as Ideological Instruments of the Nation. Many of those modern writers, actors, artists openly confront “useful Arts” as “corny”, “old hat“, and even “politically incorrect“. 

No wonder, that the main Government Agency sponsoring arts in the United States is called the National Endowment for the Arts, and not for “useful Arts”, as the Constitution directs.

While the U.S. Congress broadens the Word of the Constitution by de facto promoting Science financially, the U.S. Congress relinquishes the responsibility to equally and proportionally promote “useful Arts”. All that resulted in flourishing of Science in the United States, and total vanishing of “useful Arts”. 

Consequently, at a time of the ideologically charged total terrorist warfare, when “useful Arts” are indispensable for Ideological superiority of the Nation in battle and sustaining the Will of the Nation to resist Terror, they are not available even as basic Ideological Instruments. It is imperative that “useful Arts” ought to be resurrected, and the Progress of “useful Arts” must be promoted equally and proportionally to Science at a time of the War on Terror. 

But who does get the Power to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts”, while the U.S. Congress gave up that Power, and de facto literally starved “useful Arts“ to death? 

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, not prohibited to it by the States are reserved to the States respectively...” (The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States) So, do the States get Power to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts”?

Nothing of the kind! No States have a provision for promotion of “useful Arts” in States Constitutions. Therefore, States have no Constitutional Power to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts” either.  So, who does get the Power to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts”, after all?

Let‘s read the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States once again: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, not prohibited to it by the States are reserved to the States respectively, or to THE PEOPLE”. 

According to the Supreme Law of the Land the Power to “Promote the Progress of ... useful Arts” in a broad sense belongs to "the people". To you, myself, all of us.
  
There is no one else, but “the people” got the Power to bring “useful Arts” being vital in ideologically charged battle with Terror back to life. This Power is Ideological Power of the Constitution of the United States, and it is real.

It is the Ideological Power to strengthen the Will of the Nation in battle against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is the Power to promote the Progress of “useful Arts“ serving as Ideological Instruments in “decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century“. 

The Ideological Power is delegated to the people by the Constitution, and cannot be denied! However, there is no Power without Knowledge. And there is no Knowledge without Education. (Read more...)  

That is why it is the Constitutional Responsibility of the people of the United States to get useful knowledge of “useful Arts”, first, and then “faithfully execute” the Ideological Power “delegated to “the people” by the Supreme Law of the Land.

Summary of the Speech by Boris Tiraspolsky
at the South Oakland Republican Club in Michigan
April 27, 2009
 
1. Currently, we are in a midst of a decisive ideological struggle, or rather U.S. Ideological Civil War for the very existence of our Constitutional Republic. Most dangerous ideological attacks come from those in Power considering the Constitution of the United States to be an “unfinished document“. These ideological enemies of the Nation and their collaborates are not reluctant to routinely interfere with the Constitution when they see it does not fit their inexorable lust for power, money and privileges.

2. In spite of a defeat in November 2008, fractured and heavily outnumbered, the GOP remains the only real political Force in the United States that is capable of withstanding and successfully combating the ideological enemies of the Nation and their collaborators in the Battle for Fate of our Nation. Practical ideas and Eternal Ideals of the Constitution could become a unifying point for all members within the GOP, turning the GOP into a visible representation of the Invisible Hand of the Ideology of the Constitution.
 
3. In order to successfully conduct the U.S. Ideological Civil War and eventually win the war, the GOP needs to form a strong massive Force of Ideological Warriors - Public Instructors - professionally trained “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution”. This Force needs to be present in every local municipality. It should be equipped with superior Ideological Instruments necessary to make practical ideas and Eternal Ideals of the Constitution to become an integral part of everyday life of the American people.

4. Neither the GOP Ideological Force, nor advanced GOP Ideological Instruments can appear miraculously by themselves. They need to be formed and established. No one actually knows how “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States“ either. Therefore, learning how to “promote the Progress of… useful Arts” as it is mandated by the Constitution in Article 1, Section 8 may become an invaluable political, economic, social and cultural experience for the Republican Party.

5. Oakland County Republicans have a unique opportunity to establish the very first GOP School utilizing Ideological Instruments of “useful Arts“. The School will become a model for all the rest GOP organizations to learn how “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution” and thus shifting a balance of Power in the county, impacting the political climate in Michigan and effecting the political process in the United States.

6. The future of the GOP depends on the Party’s ability to educate the general public and win over the minds and hearts of the American people as well as recruit new members and supporters for the GOP. Forming a strong and massive GOP Force of Ideological Warriors and developing superior Ideological Instruments of “useful Arts” are a must for achieving this objective. GOP School(s) will be instrumental in consolidating human and financial resources for taking back local, State and Federal institutions of Power. Victory will not be easy. However, without GOP School of “useful Arts“ it does not seem possible, at all.

                                    The time for sleeping is over! 
                                    The time for action has come, 
                                    The minds of the People are sober -
                                    We beat our Victory drum!

                                    We are fine Drummers and Fifers
                                    In Battle for National Fate. 
                                    We turned “useful Arts” into rifles
                                    That shoot at an enemy straight 

                                    We’re fighting the Evil of Terror
                                    With the strength of the Invisible Hand. 
                                    It never, has ever made error 
                                    From start to the Glorious End.

                                    The time for talking is over! 
                                    The time for Battle has come, 
                                    The minds of the People are sober -
                                    We beat our Victory drum!

                                    We're fully endowed by the Creator 
                                    With Liberty, Life and true Joy.
                                    He is our great Navigator,
                                    He is from the Future Envoy.

                                    The Rules of the Game are changing, 
                                    The vision of the Future is bold,
                                    And Liberty never is aging, 
                                    Like a coin of silver and gold.

MISSION STATEMENT

National Endowment for the Useful Arts' sole purpose is to promote the progress of "useful Arts" as mandated in Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, including, but not limited to the performing and visual arts, as well as media formats such as cinema, TV, radio and the Internet focused in advancing the Ideology of the Constitution by educating and mobilizing the American public in terms of  recognizing their inherent responsibility to the best of their ability, to keep the Republic and "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States".

All proceeds, donations, gifts go for the support of individuals, groups and organizations working to promote the progress of “useful Arts” to keep the Republic and “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”.

*General definition of “useful Arts”: any creative activities of men that are not representing Science and/or relate to Science, but capable of a. making a positive impact on moral conduct of other individuals, b. deepening people’s ability to distinguish Beauty from ugliness and c. consequently constructively altering society’s political, economic,  social, cultural way of life could be defined as “useful Arts”.
